I'm making a second screen out of Parkland Plastics material. Since so many movies are 1.85:1, I am wondering if I should just make the screen 1.85 instead of 16:9 or 1:78:1 - that way any 1.78:1 movie can just overlap on my black felt... it's not much anyway. Your thoughts?

What is the number of the material you are going to use? It looks like they have several types.

Why bother with a 1.85 screen? The difference is so minial, get the max 1.78 you can.
Also, a CRT is not a fixed pixel device. You can set up your CRT with another memory block to blank the 1.78 overshoot (so no spill to border) or to pillarbox the 1.78 on a 1.85 screen (thereby not losing picture information). Just put "1.78" and "1.85" buttons on your universal remote to access the correct block.

Hmm... can you recall individual memory blocks on the 12xx, Dave? I didn't think you could. I never found it if you can (not that THAT couldn't happen!).
I agree, though - so little difference, I'd just set it up for 1.78. It makes things really easy - especially if you're using set-top sources (non-HTPC) and not using a scaler with AR control.

Ah, I didn't see the machine. Given the price/performance out there today, I figured everyone was using at least an 8" EM machine.  8)
