Hi Guys

Ordered an RTC2200 on April. Unfortunately the first shipmen has been lost. Crescendo Systems sent me another one at no expenses, that is right here this time! Smile

I'm very happy and I recommend it.

About the device. I bought it for PS3, since on HTPC I already had gamma control.
I found that the gamma setting I was using with HTPC was too high, since I put the RTC's gamma control at maximum and the result was less gamma than before but... perhaps it's a "placebo" effect, but I really see the image improved than with the Powerstrip gamma controls.

PS3 was simply stunning. I put Casino Royale for a quick test... But it ended that I saw 60 minutes of it because I was caught by the picture quality (my projector is a Sony 1271, I run the PS3 at 1080i).

I have just one issue. After 40 minutes of viewing, I started seeing someting like when you have a loose connector. Some kind of noise "flashing", not continuously.
I switched to INPUT A (the other input, present but with nothing connected) and again to INPUT B. Problem solved for 5 minutes...

I tapped all the connectors and the plugs, including the RTC, nothing. I have to investigate. Never saw it before. If you have ideas...

Despite this, that perhaps is just something stupid, I really recommend Crescendo Systems for your shopping!

Ciao

I have the RTC2200 as well and love it. If you have checked and double-checked all of your connections and everything is okay then I would try removing the RTC2200 from your signal chain and try viewing the same movie again, again using your PS3. If you don't notice the same flashing after a reasonable amount of viewing time then try putting the RTC2200 back in the chain and see if the flashing returns. It's just process of elimination with these things and of course when we add something new it's always our first reaction to suspect the new equipment. Are you also using an HD Fury by chance?

Yes, it's what I'll do.

No, I'm using an Ophit. Is there any problem with it?

I can't really say much about the Ophit as I've never tried one but I think Dave (Person99) uses or has used one in his setup before. If Dave uses it then it can't be too bad. Perhaps he will chime in regarding the Ophit.

The Ophit's supposed to slightly softer than HDfury. Here's Dave's comments on the HDfury (which includes a note about the Ophit):

Quote:
"Well, mine has arrived also. It is a little thicker than it looks online. Packaging is very good looking. But, who cares about that? I just want it to work well. And that it does. Mated with the RTC2200 (which provides a gamma boost) in my set up it was exceptionally clean and sharp. It solves the very slight softening I had with the Ophit. Bottom line, it is excellent. It does what it should and does it exceptionally well. Both Corpse Bride and Riddick HD DVDs were so crisp on my system, no one would ever doubt CRT sharpness if you saw my setup! Thanks John, great work. Excellent product Franck and thanks for the incredible customer service. My opinion if anyone cares: 5 thumbs up!" - Dave (Person99)

Thanks Dave, I knew I remembered reading that somewhere!

Antonio, it's great to hear that, other than the 1 issue, you're pleased with the quality. I have a Sony 1272 PJ which is essentially the same as your 1271 and I have an RTC2200 waiting for me to unbox at home right now. I hope I'm as pleased as you are with the picture (I'll actually be using it with the HDFury though).

The Fury and RTC2200 work very well together and I think you will be very pleased with no only the transcoding in the RTC2200 but more importantly the gamma boost! The difference is dramatic once you see all the low level dark detail you were missing without gamma boost.

Ok, here's what I discovered. Just the blue tube is flickering.

I swapped the red and blue BNC from the video chain: still the blue is flickering.

Seems that there is something with my CRT. Perhaps just moving slightly it installing the RTC has loosened something.

I really hope. Seems that RTC is innocent.

I'll ask Curt for suggestions. Ciao

Re-seat every card/board in the projector, including any HV leads and other things.

Edit.

After found a loose HV lead for blue tube, I think I solved my issue. Moving a bit the projector (it's ceiling mounted and the Sony's mount is not so stable) had cause the lead to move, and it was never be plugged correctly for sure.

I saw two movies from yesterday, no flickering anymore.

I just wanted to say it here, the RTC is perfect!

Thanks again Kim
