I bought the Blu-ray version 2001 A Space Odyssey yesterday when I was following the wife around Target. Yesterday was the last day they had it on sale for $20. I have not watched it yet. Has anyone?

Yep. Very good transfer considering the age of the film, kind of a boring movie though. Great flick for a CRT because of all the shots in space.

No sh$t! I guess it is different strokes for different folks, Mike. I saw this two years ago on HDNET and absolutely fell in love with it. I wasn't even stoned.Smile Being an ex-Marine, it is between this and Full Metal Jacket for best Kubrick film followed by Strangelove.

Aright then I will give it another try the website did clear up a few things. The ape part at the beginning I just didn't get & bored me to tears. I shouldn't take a website 40 years after the picture was made to explain what it was about.

Kubrick made it this way on purpose. It's not a movie for those that like tidy endings and he left it totally open to our interpretation. There are many explanations of what the film is about and pretty much every science fiction movie made from that point on can thank 2001 as it still remains as relevant today as it was 40 years ago. My wife HATED the movie but then again she hates most movies. I made her sit through The Right Stuff which IS my favorite movie and she vowed to never again be tricked into watching a classic movie with me.

Read the book before you watch the movie. I think it will explain a lot more than that website.

You are right. It should have taken you 40-minutes to find someone on the planet to explain it to you. Mr. Green

I agree, it's not on pace with most action packed sci-fi films of today but there is just something very eeire about HAL and the building tension between man and machine.

I'm not an action only guy. I love classic films. Drama, dialogue plot development. I just dont like 2001.
