OK, as many know, I was sort of taking a break from all the forums for about 5 months or so. When I came back, I pretty much came back only to this forum.

Well, since I've started selling some stuff, I've been back over at AVS a little. I am amazed at how dead the CRT forum is! It seems like 90% of the traffic has moved to this site!

Was this all of a sudden or has it been happening in my absence?

It's amazing what the promise of hookers, porn and booze will do..Smile

I think the trend towards over here has more been word of mouth, googling 'CRT projector' and my eBay ads than anything else.

Seems like it's been a gradual thing - over the last year or more. It's not uncommon now to see a half-dozen or fewer threads with a post from today. If it weren't for Cliffy's screenshot war and meet threads, there would be even fewer posts. I'm down to checking it only once every 2-3 days or so - and only if I'm bored. I rarely ever post anymore at AVS - CRT Forum or not.

I know I used to take every opportunity I could to get people over here. Wink

No man it's all just a big joke for your benefit. We all got together and said, "Hey, <heeheehee> while Dave is away <heeheehee> lets move all the <heeheehee> people and furniture <heeheehee> around so he won't know <heeheehee> WTF is going on when he gets back. Mr. Green

<wiping a tear> Ah man.. you shoulda seen your face! Laughing Kidding of course Dave. I for one missed your child of Louis Black/Andy Rooney/Dennis Miller/Stephen Hawkings (etc?) style. Thumbs Up

It died over there IMO because what makes this site successful was stripped away. A greater emphasis was placed on profit over community.
What I find most ironic is AVS Forum is reported as "The" site for AV professionals in many e and rag publications. There are interviews, quotes, authorized reproductions of past articles, etc. What professionals can there be left? Any if they're there....why? To look at the purdy advertising blocks? There sure isn't a whole helluva lot of exchange of ideas going on any more by professionals.

It's still good to have you back around Dave.

I have to say, I never though this forum would get this popular - I thought for sure I'd be sticking around AVS mostly but like SC, I'm on here (obviously) every day now and only check AVS once and a while or when I'm bored. Maybe once a week.

Me too - glad to have the "old" Dave back. I used to look forward seeing some newb post a silly question only to think to myself "Oh man, this is going to be good.... Dave's going to tear this guy a new one with his brutal honesty!" Smile

Big Dog, I was thinking a while ago (go figure), and I'm curious, How big is your database now since you guys started?

Do you know what kind of server it's running on?

I think that the reason the "A" died is the reason i'm here. There was no community there. Once a certain mod made the scene, the guy w/ the "gun" it was no fun no more.

I like the looser atmosphere here. We're adults and Curt lets us play in his sandbox, w/o a lot of supervision.

Tu Salud!!! Thumbs Up

WEll I gotta give the ex g/f credit for suggesting to put the site up. As with Kal, I didn't think it was going to go anywhere, but look at all of us now.

Seeing us all come together with an unfortunate post such as the one about Moose gives me a really good feeling about this site and forum. To quote Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure for sec: 'Strange things are afoot at the Circle K'. Stay tuned, the site is about to expand...Wink

I just present the "canvas"... you guys are the "artists"! Without you guys there'd be nothing here!

Glad you asked! You can see our handy-dandy detailed forum statistics here: http://www.curtpalme.com/forum/statistics.php
(There's a link to it from the main page at the bottom of the "Forum Statistics" area).

According to it, the database is only 239mb. Not that big really. Not overly tiny either.

Quote:

Pretty small server actually. Nothing fancy:

300GB bandwidth allowance
2.8GHz P4 CPU
512MB RAM
2x80GB SATA
2 IP's
100Mbps Dedicated Port
Typical Linux package with MySQL, PHP, etc.

We tend to use just about every last byte of the 300GB of bandwidth/month with around 60K visitors/month and 500K page views/month.

Hosted at www.atcihosting.com. Great, stable servers. 5 thumbs up!

Kal

Been there, got all that.
Anyway, Dave was right as usual. I was a bit pi$$ed off at the time, but he gave sound advice and I appreciated it. Hell, I'm even considering purchasing his OPHIT from him.

Cheers Dave, and welcome back

I was around for that, that was over a year ago. We all got mad at the guy with the gun, came here, but then people started trickling back to Site A and there was some activity over there. Then it seems to have really died off. It seems that between August 2007 and some recent time, it has almost completely died.
