There's probably no one that has done this before. Laughing

I have all parts for it already, so why not to build one?

BG808s with about 11000 hours, original Sony tubes are pretty crappy (9,6,7)
P16LNN tubes
BG1200 LC chambers and frame for tubes, it’s 4" wider than 808 frame.
Color filtered c elements
HD10GT17 lenses

I like idea of 8" LC with HD10 lenses, because that combo have long throw, good colors and corner focus. First I was going to build this with 9" tubes, but 9-10 rated cost too much and are hard to find.

I already made tube adapters to fit those in 9" LC hardware.

BG808s neck boards needs also few chances, because every voltage need to be chanced to different position. Yesterday I finished first amp and going to test it today.

808 side panels need also some modification to make room for tubes.

Wow - Nice work! Let us know what the results are like!

I'm assuming the setup will have continuous sheimpflug right? You might need that to correct things if the tubes aren't perfectly aligned in the frames.

Hi Ile,

You are not the first! Barco has produced the BG1208s LC. It uses HD-10 lenses and 9" tube mounts. Only difference was the size of the opening where the tubes goes into the mount. The opening was smaller so it would just hold the 8" tube instead of the 9" tube. It looked like a special casting of the metal housing.

I know this for shure because I have installed this projector myself. The advantage was the increased throw-ratio.

I think the Marquee 8500LC is also built in this way.

Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of it.

You will certainly enjoy the image! Did you paint the aluminium black? It will reduce halo's and glycol corrosion.

Remember to use the proper HD-10 lenses that will focus at the appropriate distance as the projector will be placed further form the screen. Projector distance increases by a little over 12% compared to a 9"equiped HD-10 lens.

But I do remember that projector was razorsharp! Mechanical astig was a bit more tricky because of increased projector distance and the not so small screensize.

No continuous sheimpflug in 1200/1209 housings. But as you see in my second picture there is small guide peaces (variable thickness) in corners to make glueing to hardware as accurate as possible. Adapters are glued to tubes in flat surface to make them to same level.

I think I have read about that rare LC 1208 from avs few years back. But I'm going to use 808 frame, because 808s high convergence tray wont fit to 120* series frame. Also BG1200 frame is pretty badly shielded, there is no aluminium covers over tubes etc.

Yep, I got idea from M8500LC.

Surface treatment isn't needed, because adapter won't be in contact with glycol.

Just tested modified amp to Jarmo's (1031) Marquee test tube (toast red ac), neck board seem to work fine. Very Happy

Picture was about 30% smaller in that Marquee tube than in other two Sony tubes. Probably normal...

Few pictures of neck board mod.

That must be flux or something. Very Happy

I almost forgot to cut that ground trace, that would short G1 to ground with Marquee tube. It's too complicated to me when three pin goes to same place. Very Happy

I have to widen 808 frame 4" from tube area. Very Happy
I use BG1200 tube rack for that.

Just chopped 808 frame today...

My green and blue Sony 07MFP2 tubes are too burned for my picky taste, so I had to find new tubes. Good shape green and blue Sony 07MFP2 tubes aren't available, so making simple pin out mod and using M8500LC tubes (MEC) was cheapest option for me to get good tubes.

Other option was use Barco MEC tubes, but those need almost similar pin out mod to BG808s neck cards. These also usually cost little more than Marquee tubes and are bit harder to find. If pin out mod isn't option, then it's needed to find rare RG808s 120 MHz neck boards or use 75 MHz amps from 808.

Last picture was from extra line filters I added to remove noise from picture. I'm also going to ad similar filtering to other video boards later.

Awesome Ile.

I'd like to drop an Xtra/XG into a GP5000 chassis one day, to use the HD-10 lenses.

We want MORE PICTURES!!!

Those are inductors in series with protection resistors
http://www.elfa.se/elfa-bin/setpage.pl?http://www.elfa.se/elfa-bin/dyndok.pl?dok=2015770.htm&lang=fi
and I also changed original line caps to double sized 105 C. Haven't tested enough yet to say if 33uH is right value, but that worked pretty well in 75 MHz amps 220V line. Some smaller sized (mA rating) work in neck boards, but I had these left from other project.

Did you put a scope on the powerlines?
In which frequency range is the hf noise mostly present ?

Here's few pictures of yesterday evening work. I removed everything from frame and chopped it so I got 1200 tube rack installed.

Now I need to assemble tubes and other stuff in frame to see how everything fit in place. After that it's needed to build installing hardware for tube rack.

There seem to be just enough room inside 808 frame for R/B tube tilting. Now I have to lower tube rack down about 1/2" to get room for neck boards.

When it's done, will it fit the normal 808 casing? I mean, will it look like a 808 with casing etc.?

Normal casing won't fit without modification, frame is going to be too wide.

It's not problem since that hoover craft have to put inside hushbox anyway. I'm going to build it inside dropped ceiling and make air circulation to another room through back wall...
