Projector and hushbox
Title:
Projector and hushbox
Description:
Closeup of the Zenith PRO 1200x projector & hushbox. The normal projector cover and sides are not used - the hushbox serves this purpose.
This Zenith 1200 is simply a rebadged Barco Cine 8 Onyx projector. Zenith simply adds their own sticker to the case. That's pretty much the only difference.
The 3 fans at the back of the Zenith PRO 1200x (and one small one at the front) suck air from the front of the unit around the lenses and push it out the back.
A 6" diameter HVAC metal duct at the back of the hushbox goes off to the adjacent furnace room where a 110CFM Nutone ultra-quiet bathroom fan pulls this warm air from the back of hushbox.
With this setup, the unit actually runs a few degrees cooler then with the normal cover on and no hushbox. With an ambient temp of around 21'C, the inside of the projector runs at around 25-26'C (measured right in the middle of the chassis - right near the back of the center tube).
A stove temperature probe monitors the internal temperature and emits an audible alarm if the temperature gets too warm if ever the venting system fails. Automatic shutdown would have been a good idea but the projector's never on unless I'm in the house.
The hushbox is build around a frame made out of pine 1x2" 's covered with hardboard and insulated with 2 layers of compressed fiberglass ceiling tiles (same stuff used in the acoustic panels). Helped bring the already quiet projector to nearly inaudible levels.
You can see more of my hushbox pictures and how to build one here: http://www.curtpalme.com/Hushbox1.shtm
