If you're looking for an incredibly
large and bright CRT projection system
then the BlendZilla from Tim Martin of
E-Tech Systems (a friendly
competitor to Curt) is an option you
may want to consider.
Here is Tim's description:
We now have the technology to project stunning highly detailed and very
bright images from CRTs using a special switcher/scaler/processor called BlendZilla. Sources can be HDTV satellite, DVD, HTPC, XBox 360, and other high
quality signals fed through this processor and pairs of CRT projectors onto
screens nine feet and wider. E-Tech will bundle the BlendZilla processor with
retubed or new 8500 or 9500LC Marquees for systems ranging from $33,000 to
$90,000 (USD) and assist in providing skilled installation almost anywhere. The
projectors will display a left 60% and a right 60% of 16:9 using seamless
overlap at 1024p for unparalleled image punch and detail.
A recent visitor had this to say: "As far as light output is concerned,
even with a unity gain screen at 107" wide, the picture had a vast dynamic
range. The projectors brightness was set in the low 40's for all viewing as
there was absolutely no need for more light output. Subjectively, I would not
hesitate using a 120" wide screen with this setup. I looked into all 6 tubes and
it was a refreshing feeling to see the entire height and width of the raster
being used!"
This system is demoed in Phoenix by appointment only, contact Tim at E-Tech
